Put your books into new hands

Donate books

Your simple book donation benefits so many people.

Your books get new homes. You get a tax-donation letter. Schools, teachers, and other non-profits get gift certificates and money. Landfills stay empty. Brick-and-mortar bookstores get supported.

Quick guide

What we can take

Yes, please

  • Focused-subject collections — science fiction, scholarly estate donations, single-subject non-fiction, kids' books
  • Mixed-subject donations too — fiction and non-fiction
  • "Good or better" condition — nice enough to give a family member as a casual gift
  • Reasonable use-wear is fine — a few fingerprints, scant text-markings, lightly worn or faded edges
  • Sometimes we can accept media

Not a fit

  • No magazines, loose educational materials, textbooks, dictionaries, or outdated computer or medical books
  • Must have been stored dry — no insects, rodents, or leg-lifting dogs
  • No cracked bindings, torn covers, major stains, or mildew

Not sure? Just ask.

Three steps

How it works

1

Reach out

Message us to see if we have space to take your donation. Let us know about how many, where you are, and what type of books.

2

Pack them up

Sometimes we can do a pack and transport; sometimes we'll ask that you bring them to us in El Sobrante (94803). Either way, you'll get personal contact and we'll figure out the logistics together.

3

Good deed done

Every book will be treated with care and end up with someone who wants it. You'll have helped promote literacy, protect the environment, and you'll even get a donation receipt for your taxes.
