Lend a hand

Volunteer

Books don't move themselves. A few willing hands keep everything flowing, from sorting shelves to delivering boxes.

Ways to pitch in

Opportunities for everyone

If you volunteer, you get first pick of all the books that come through. The more you volunteer, the more books you can take home!

Playing with the books

  • Unboxing and first-sort for quality
  • Valuating and categorizing
  • Rearranging the stacks for free-days
  • Taking photos, posting online

This is at our private, safe, semi-rural, bathroom-provided, El Sobrante location. Hours are 24/7, if arranged in advance.

Show off the muscles

  • Packing boxes, and loading the van at folks' houses
  • Unpacking in El Sobrante
  • Rearranging the shelves for storage
  • Transport to bookstores, schools, post office, etc.

This is mostly in West Contra Costa County, but might be anywhere in the Bay Area. This is mostly scheduled, usually at the last minute.

Doing the talking

  • Community outreach in any way you can think of
  • Staffing the tables at give-away days
  • Connecting with schools, educators, other non-profits
  • Managing the website & social

Some of this can be done in your home, some in the community at your whim, and some at scheduled times and places.
